Singapore School Holidays 2027: Dates & Family Outing Ideas

Planning around the kids’ school breaks next year? Singapore’s 2027 school holidays fall on 13–21 March, 29 May–27 June, 4–12 September and 20 November–31 December for MOE primary and secondary schools, including MOE Kindergartens.
Here are the dates to save, the extra days off that are easy to miss, and a few ideas for getting out with the family. If you’re visiting Singapore, these dates are useful for planning your trip around the local school calendar too.
The 2027 school holiday dates, at a glance

These dates apply to MOE Kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools. The year-end break is the longest; the June holidays give families about a month off in the middle of the year.

A few extra days to put in your diary
The four main breaks aren’t the whole calendar. There are also school holidays during term time, and they don’t automatically mean a day off work for parents.

Teachers’ Day falls just before the September break, so children are off from Friday 3 September through Sunday 12 September. Children’s Day makes a three-day weekend for primary pupils, from 8 to 10 October.
Don’t miss the school days off in lieu
MOE has also designated Tuesday 9 February, Monday 3 May and Monday 27 December as days off in lieu for schools. Schools, including their general offices, Student Care Centres and KCare Centres, will be closed on these dates. The December date already sits within the year-end break.
For Chinese New Year, Monday 8 February is a public holiday and Tuesday 9 February is the additional school closure. That gives schoolchildren a break from Saturday 6 February to Tuesday 9 February, but parents should check their own work arrangements for the Tuesday.
When does school start again?

Primary 1 and Kindergarten 1 start on Monday 4 January. Primary 2–6 and Kindergarten 2 return on Tuesday 5 January, so siblings may have different first days.
There’s one important exception to the November end date: schools used as venues for the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education (SEC) written examinations finish their final term on Friday 29 October. Check your school’s notice before making plans around that earlier finish.
Do JC and MI students have the same holidays?
The March, June and September breaks are the same for junior colleges and Millennia Institute. Their start dates and year-end holidays differ:

For JC Year 1, MI Year 1 and MI Year 2, Term 4 ends on Friday 26 November. For JC Year 2 and MI Year 3, it ends with the GCE A-Level examinations; MOE does not give a fixed final date in this calendar.
Public holidays worth planning around
A public holiday can make it easier to get everyone together, especially when parents are working through the school breaks. Here is the 2027 list from the Ministry of Manpower.

Good Friday gives you 26–28 March, Hari Raya Haji gives you 15–17 May, and National Day gives you 7–9 August if you normally have weekends off. Schoolchildren also have Tuesday 10 August off. It’s a useful window for a family outing without using up a whole week of leave.
What shall we do with the kids?
You don’t need to fill every day of the holidays. One neighbourhood, a proper lunch stop and time to wander can be plenty. For a day out in Singapore, start with how far your children are happy to walk rather than how many sights you can squeeze in.
Spend a morning or afternoon in Chinatown
Chinatown gives children plenty to notice: temple carvings, shophouses, market stalls and food they might not have tried before. A guide can help put those small details into a story, from the first migrants who arrived here to the neighbourhood people live and work in today.

Have a day that fits your family

A little room in the plan goes a long way
Bring water, comfortable shoes and an umbrella or poncho. Leave time for a meal and a sit-down break, particularly if you’re walking with younger children. For places of worship, pack clothing that covers shoulders and knees and follow the entry rules at each stop.
If you’re visiting from overseas, remember that local school holidays can affect the dates you want to book. Choose the experiences you care about first, then leave some unplanned time for a playground, a snack or simply heading back to the hotel.
What about international schools, polytechnics and ITE?
This is the MOE school calendar. International schools, polytechnics, ITE and universities publish their own term and holiday dates, which can be different. Use your child’s institution’s calendar for those bookings.
Schools may also announce closures linked to examinations or other school arrangements. Before paying for flights, accommodation or a tour, check the school’s own notices as well as the dates above.
