First time cooking - Amazing experience!
Join Monster Day Tours on this newly launched cooking experience at Funan. My girlfriend & I haven't been to the new Funan and I thought this was a good chance not only to explore the place but to do some cooking together (which we haven't done before).
Our guide, Angel is excellent. We started off with an hour tour around Funan where she shares its development and the various interesting tenants. The highlight of the tour is the rooftop garden (which to our surprise, you don't see any visitors even though it is a public area). We learnt about spices and how we will be using them to cook during our class.
After the tour, we got to visit lyf Funan (a co-living space, which looks really cool and modern. We got private spaces for us to cook in their communal kitchen and the cooking was everything fun! The steps were simple for novices like us to follow and Angel always ensure that we are doing everything right. And boy, our Peranakan dish came out looking so good and taste delicious. We felt so proud of ourselves and very fulfilling at the end of the day. Highly recommend this for couples and families to try.

Great introduction to Peranakan Culture & Sustainability
Was looking for something interesting to do and came across this Peranakan food sustainability tour by Monster tours. We have heard of Peranakan food but not yet tried it despite having stayed in Singapore for the past 2.5 years so we thought this is a good opportunity to try it since I love cooking myself. Our guide & chef of the day was Angel, who was super friendly and passionate about cooking and food. We did a tour around Funan - and although we have been here before, we didn't tour the spice gardens on the roof and we learnt a lot about spices and sustainability methods that Singapore and ourselves can take.
The second part of the tour was the highlight cooking class. We were given our own work station equipped with aprons and ingredients. Angel will give short demonstrations of each cooking step, which were easy to follow. Peranakan cooking is very interesting as it uses some of the spices we saw earlier and all of us in the class managed to whip out the full course of an appetiser, main and dessert. This tour + cooking format is very refreshing and well worth the money!

Cooking made easy & fun
Signed up for this tour with my wife to give a shot at Peranakan cooking, which we have never tried before. We had both Angel & Darius which were our chefs and guides. The short tour around Funan was insightful, giving us some background to the mall and its concept. The visit to the sustainability gardens is one of the highlight (it was drizzling a little but everything was still good). Then we visit lyf funan which we made a note to do a staycation in future - it has very cool decor and a great concept to encourage co-living & co-working. We started our cooking portion at the common kitchen, which was reserved. Steps and demo were provided by Angel and they were easy to follow, each step taking usually around 5 to 20 mins depending on what you are preparing. Overall the entire cooking experience was around 2 hours and the Peranakan food we cooked was satisfying and appealing to eyes. We had such fun during the cooking session and asking many questions, which Angel & Darius are quick to answer. Very well-crafted experience.
